Master Keying
The old Master Key, a term commonly mis-used. A Master Key is not a "special" key that Locksmiths or burglars have that enables them to open any lock around. No there is no Car Master Key & No there is no such thing as a modern Skeleton Key. These terms came from old times when old mortice locks that had keys that passed through wards in the lock. If you cut away most of the key (Skeleton) it would pass the wards on many locks & therefore open them. This does not work on any pin tumbler or modern lock of today.
What then is a Master Key. It is a Key that has been specifically designed & had all the locks it works purposely keyed to suit this key & others under it. This can be a very complicated process & we used the Worlds best software to design & record these systems, ProMaster 5.
Some examples of a Master Key system would be in a Motel where the owner has a Master Key that works all the locks on the property. Each room has its own key that will work only in the Room. If the motel has a private sauna room we can allow all the room keys to work this along with the Master Key. This cannot simply be done by cutting the keys. The Locks must be pulled apart & keyed accordingly.
If we take this one step further we can have what we call a Registered Restricted Profile Master Key System. This is similar to a standard Master Key system except we change the lock barrel to be a registered designed keyway that will allow only our specialty keyways to pass. Keys can only be obtained upon recept of a signatory that is kept on file. Similar to how a cheque account works. We treat the Keys as the bank would treat your money. This stops unauthorised Key duplication & lets you control who has access.

Change Your Locks

When you move into any new premises you should have the locks changed. This doesn't mean throwing the old locks away & getting new ones. Nearly every lock can be pulled apart and have it insides change to lock out any old keys & have a brand new "code". You can also have the lock changed to take a Registered & Restricted Keyway. This allows you to have total control over who can have additional keys cut for your system. In addition to this, most times we can make the one key fit all your locks thereby saving you time & money when it comes time for spare keys.
